PicSketch can turn photos into sketches with a few simple clicks

Several years ago, I commissioned a college student to do a drawing from a photograph of my parents on their wedding day for their wedding anniversary. The college student was also a co-worker of mine at the time, but unfortunately, we went our separate ways and I was unable to collect the product from him. I've always regretted that because it's something I truly believed my parents would enjoy and appreciate. This project was before the revolution of digital photo editing, which has truly blossomed in the past few years and could have helped quite a bit in the aforementioned situation. One of the apps that has come out of this revolution is PicSketch.

PicSketch is a powerful photo editing tool with the specific function of turning photographs into sketches. It utilizes basic editing tools such as rotating, adjusting contrast and brightness and changing backgrounds. PicSketch also includes features that allow users to quickly and easily turn photographs into sketches, personalize the sketching by changing pen color or pen size, utilizing preset sketch effects and ultimately save pictures out as JPG, TIFF or PNG. The interface is really straightforward and you can start producing sketches with just a few clicks.

I really enjoy using this app. It's easy to use and produces quality products. If I had this app available in 2005, I could have produced the sketch of my parents' wedding photograph without enlisting the help of the college student who never gave me the sketch he promised me. I love the feature that allows for selecting pen color. It really enhances the artwork that is produced. I also really like that you can drag/drop photos directly from iPhoto into PicSketch. I have included some examples of what PicSketch can do below.

Sketch Example #3

The first example is a simple sketch in black ink. I did very little to modify the default setting. The second example, I used a preset option to manipulate the photograph and the third photo is like the first example, but with the ink color changed to a shade of orange. Each of these photos only took me about 5 minutes to create and produced wonderful results.
PicSketch has been featured as the App of the Week on the Mac App Store recently and currently retails for $4.99. I recommend this app to anyone that wants to add to their photo editing tools.
